One of the most important skills to be successful on the
TOEIC exam is to understand word form. This means to know
what type of word is needed. Word form is tested on the
incomplete sentences section.

Words have 4 major forms:
• Verbs
• Nouns
• Adjectives
• Adverbs
Verbs
- Actions
- Change with the tense of the sentence (past, present,
continuous, etc.)
- Irregular or Regular
- Gerunds & Infinitives
Nouns
- People (Tom, Brad Pitt, Teacher, Girl)
- Places (Toronto, School, Canada)
- Things (Television, Dog, Chair)
- Ideas (Freedom, Love, Justice)
Nouns can be countable or uncountable. They often come after
the verb "have" or after articles (a, an, the)
I have a dog.
The boy is tall.
Adjectives
- Describe nouns
- Go before nouns (The tall boy)
- Go after the verb to Be (The boy is tall)
Adverbs
- Describe verbs (The boy ran quickly)
- Describe adjectives (The man is surprisingly tall.)
